Pension system of the Republic of Moldova: actuary expertise

3.3.2. Disability pensions

The disability pensions are assigned to insured persons on full or partial loss of the capacity for work due to general disease, industrial injury or professional disease. To get a disability pension due to general disease, at the moment of disability confirmation the insured person should have from 1 to 5 years of length of insured service: till 23 years – 1 year, between 23-26 years – 2 years and over 31 years – 5 years. The disability pensions due to industrial injury or professional disease are assigned irrespective of length of service. The disability pensions are paid in a full amount to all pensioners, including those having income subject to state social insurance.

The number of disabled pensioners in Moldova for the period from 1999 to 2003 grew up smoothly and constituted in 2005 - 123,7 thousand persons, increasing by 10,7% for this period. In 2005 they constituted 20,0% of the total number of pensioners. A considerable share in the total number of disabled pensioners represent those due to general disease – 96,9%.
