Development of the Analytical Model of the Republic of Moldova’s Pension System
2.3.3. Survivor’s Pensions
The right to a survivor’s pension is acquired if a deceased person was a pensioner or had an entitlement to a pension. Survivor’s pensions may be assigned to
- children under 18, or those above this age, if they are full-time college or university students, until their graduation but not after their attaining 23 years old,
- a spouse having been married to the deceased person for at least 15 years and not re-married, if he or she at the instant of the death or within 5 years after it, has attained the pension age or become an invalid with Disability Group I or II,
- a spouse or custodian taking care of the deceased bread-winner’s children.
Pensions to children are always paid in full. Pensions to spouses and custodians are paid in full only in cases when they do not receive revenue subject to state social insurance.
The survivor’s pensioner share in the total number of Moldova’s pensioners is stable enough, in 1999-2003 it varied within the range of 5.1 - 5.6 %
